LIFE LINES.

Life lines: are they mandatory?

The question we are asked most often is whether there is a requirement to install a lifeline on the roof of one’s home.

We can say that it is mandatory for a property owner to ensure that suitable protective measures are in place for those working on the roof or in an elevated work area.

“Work at height” means work in which an operator’s feet are at an elevation of 2 meters or more above the first obstacle in the event of a fall.

An owner who commissions routine and/or extraordinary roof maintenance work from an operator is responsible for ensuring that appropriate protective measures are in place and properly used.

Regulations defining the obligation to install permanent protection systems are specific to regions and provinces, but in general, the obligation exists for new building construction and roof maintenance.
